12/10/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Tue Oct 17, 2006 2:16 pm

Two game boats worked out wide recently with Revenge having one shot on a striped marlin that didn’t stay connected
In closer the reefs have been fishing well for small snapper with the occasional large pearl perch as a bycatch. After dark you can bag out on trag jew, and sharks of all sorts are everywhere. We’ve also had a second-hand report of a cobia caught in close off Blackhead.
There are still plenty of salmon on most beaches, which has got some holiday makers hooked on beach fishing. A few big bream and an ever-increasing number of whiting have made the beach fishing better than it has been for some time.
Rock fishing has been very quiet, with a few mulloway targeted off the rocks in the south of our district.
A steady supply of mulloway have come from the breakwalls using bait and soft plastics. Trumpeter whiting and some bigger sand whiting are now being taken in the usual spots, and plenty of small flathead are being caught with all manner of baits and lures. Bream are also being taken but you may spend some time finding them in numbers, particularly if you’re tossing lures.
No report next week as I’m off up north chasing barra.
