Weekly Report 1/12/06

Offshore: The warm water is out wide with small marlin and flying fish reported. The reefs up north have provided excellent snapper, pearlies and, of an evening, trag galore. Mahi mahi are not yet in big numbers but this could change overnight.
Beaches: Variable weather and at times strong winds have not made the beaches easy to fish but there are some quality whiting and bream being taken, particularly on beaches to our south. Salmon are still in big numbers. This time last month as we approached the full moon the mulloway fishing was outstanding. I'm sure there will be as much, if not more interest this time around. Beach worms accounted for most of the fish, although one guy is having a lot of success using a Rapala X Rap 14 lure.
Rocks: A few guys will be after mulloway after dark. Some small tailor are being spun up as the sun sets.
Estuary: The mulloway action in the main channel has slowed a little. The rest of the estuary is fishing beautifully for big flathead, whiting, mullet and garfish. There are bream being caught but they are more spread out and not as predictable as the other species.
