Weekly Report 13/04/07

Offshore: The weather over Easter didn't do the offshore anglers any favours, but the last few days have seen conditions greatly improved and with it the fishing. Several boats journeyed north yesterday to the area known as Five Mile Reef and caught a terrific bag of snapper, pearl perch, trag and some massive nannygai. The FAD is still holding quality mahi mahi and we are hoping that the next few days will see reports of cobia. The local game fishing club has an outing on Saturday which should get us back up to speed on what the marlin are doing out wider. Some reasonable kingfish have come from the Seal Rocks area.
Beaches: Celito Beach seems to be the place to go to catch the best of the whiting. Closer to town, Seven Mile Beach has seen some reasonable captures of tailor and bream. Most recognised fishing beaches are starting to show some form.
Rocks: The LBG action is well and truly under way with good numbers of longtail tuna reported. Traditional bait fishing off the rocks will provide tailor, bream and drummer.
Estuary: Excellent bream fishing is being experienced in Wallis Lake on bait and lures. The last few weeks has also seen a terrific run of crabs. The water is still warm and the flathead are easy to target. Quite a lot of mulloway have been caught from the breakwalls but sharks are a problem for those fishing after dark . Tailor can be caught just on dark around the bridge on the Tuncurry side.
