Weekly Report 27/04/07

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Apr 27, 2007 3:30 pm

Offshore: Sea conditions have been generally good with early morning offshore breezes making for a pleasant run to sea. Still plenty of mahi mahi on the FAD, some excellent marlin action a little further out and plenty of trag on the reefs. If you don't want to go far, head for Latitude Rock for some tailor and just legal kingfish.
Beaches: The tides for the coming weekend look great for a dawn and dusk go for some tailor and bream. Through the week there have been some quality whiting coming from the middle of Boomerang Beach.
Rocks: LBG action over recent weeks has been good with longtail tuna, small yellowfin tuna and some cobia being reported. Traditional rock fishing for bream, tailor and blackfish has also improved. I've had two reports of small black marlin cruising just off the rocks at Forster.
Estuary: Quite a bit of shark activity after dark around the breakwalls has caused a few problems for those expecting something smaller to swim past. Despite that the mulloway fishing has been good, particularly from the Tuncurry Wall. The mullet are yet to run to sea in numbers but this won't be far off. The same can be said about the bream which are also in good numbers in the lower parts of the lake. As the water temp is still above 20°, flathead are still being targeted with good results. This month has seen some excellent crabbing but it wont be long before this slows.
Overall, the fishing is very good and offers something for everyone.
