Weekly Report 18/05/07

Offshore: A real mixed bag of offshore fishing over the last week. Mahi mahi and marlin seem to have disappeared but the reef fishing has improved considerably. The general rules for fishing for trag seem to have gone out the window. Last week when there was a moon up during the evening you were lucky to get a bite. The last few nights with no moon visible (not supposed to be any good) some of the biggest trag for years have been caught. If there wasn't a bag limit of five, you could fill the boat. In closer the snapper on soft plastics have been prolific. Very light jig heads have been required in the still conditions that were on offer. Still plenty of bait fish and tailor at Latitude Rock.
Beaches: The bream fishing on beaches from Pacific Palms to Seal Rocks has improved in recent weeks. I won't say the tailor fishing is fantastic, but it's worth a go.
Rocks: General consensus is that most rocky areas have never had so much sand buildup. A lot of traditional potholes you would expect to pull a bream, drummer or blackfish from are high and dry at low tide. Having said that, keep an open mind because there are plenty of the previously mentioned species around. The rocks at the southern end of Blueys Beach are getting a hiding, but continue to produce fish.
Estuary: The mulloway and sharks in the main channel mentioned in previous weeks remain. Hopefully a bit of rough weather expected over the next few days will chase some travelling bream into the estuary. Blackfish are in good numbers but yet to feed aggressively. The good snapper mentioned above have spilt over into the lake with several quality fish being caught in the Forster Boat Harbour.
