Offshore: Let’s talk about what's been happening and not what's in store for the next few days as the forecast for the long weekend is fairly average. It's the time of the year when you can venture wide and do some very deep water fishing for species like bar cod. One crew did that last weekend and were rewarded with a nice feed of fish. In closer the reefs produced a real mixed bag of some trag, reasonable snapper with bonito again common. Some late schools of mullet moving up the coast continue to attract lots of sharks and at Seal Rocks last weekend quite a few cobia. Keep an eye out for migrating whales.
Beaches: The beaches will benefit from the predicted big seas over the coming days which will hopefully reshape what are otherwise very flat patches of sand. You would expect to be experiencing excellent tailor and bream fishing at this time of the year, so stay tuned.
Rocks: The rocks have been fishing well for blackfish, bream, tailor and drummer. A few mulloway have also been reported. It could be a bit dangerous on the rocks over the weekend so it might be a good idea to leave the heavy gear in the garage and go and catch something in the lake.
Lake: The bream fishing around the bridge and breakwalls has been excellent. Quite a few small tailor and some thumper leatherjackets have also been reported. If you’re coming to the area to target blackfish, bring your bait with you as all the locals are complaining about the lack of local green weed.
