Weekly Report 29/06/07

Offshore: Half a dozen boats snuck out last Sunday as part of a local fishing club outing and stayed only long enough to catch a few trag and flathead. W to SW winds over the coming weekend might allow some fishing in close to headlands just a bit north and south of town. Snapper on soft plastics or a metal lure for some of the big tailor that are around might be the best you can hope for.
Beaches: Some great water on Seven Mile Beach and the southern end of Nine Mile have provided some terrific tailor fishing. Salmon and the occasional bream are to be expected as by-catch.
Rocks: Plenty of drummer and blackfish have been reported from most rock platforms. Cabbage weed has been stripped from the rocks by the big seas and is hard to find but there is plenty of cunjevoi washed up on the beaches, although it's got a nice aroma about it. Tailor spinning and cut baits for bream should also be considered.
Estuary: The excellent bream fishing continues in the lower parts of the lake. Ongoing regular rain is keeping the rivers dirty. Big tailor are cruising the system and have borrowed some very expensive bream lures from some none-too-happy fishos. Mulloway haven't been as active as hoped.
