Weekly Report 7/09/07

Offshore: Game boats working the shelf have reported small yellowfin tuna. Since last Sunday the weather has been poor with strong southerly winds so few boats have been to sea. Local pros tell me that bonito numbers are on the increase.
Beaches: The very good tailor season has started to slow with the beach conditions and tides not really at their best over the last week. This weekend, as we approach the new moon, provides high tides at dawn and dusk so, subject to weather, the beaches could be worth a try. Salmon are still around.
Rocks: There is a bit of sea and swell hitting the rocks and this continues to provide for some excellent drummer fishing. So once again, if the weather conditions allow, the rocks are definitely worth a go.
Estuary: Last weekend saw several mulloway caught from the Tuncurry and Forster breakwalls. Soft plastic lures accounted for most of these. Further up the lake, some hardy blackfish anglers have battled the southerly wind and have caught quality and quantity. The bream fishing has not been at its best but several anglers targeting them on lures have reported some large sand whiting taking poppers. The flathead seem to know that spring is here with some very large fish being reported around the bridge.
