Weekly Report 19/10/07

Offshore: Conditions haven't been as good as the previous two weeks but there is plenty of fishing action to be had. Close-in reefs are holding quality snapper which are being targeted by an ever-increasing number of people using soft plastics. A few schools of bonito have been reported as has the occasional big kingfish. After dark the trag fishing has been excellent. Out wide there is some early season striped marlin action which will only improve over the next few months. If you want to keep it simple just head out to 50m of water and drift for flathead.
Beaches: Very mixed reports, with whiting and big bream being caught at Seal Rocks. The occasional small tailor is being caught off Seven Mile Beach but the summer beach fishing is yet to get into full swing.
Rocks: The rock fishing is also stuck between seasons but you will find a few people out there successfully targeting bream and blackfish.
Estuary: Quite a few mulloway have been caught off both sides of the breakwalls. Soft plastic lures have accounted for most of these. The flathead and whiting fishing in the lake has been very good. Bream are being caught, but you have to work out first where they are. As we move into summer you'll find that a trip up the rivers that feed the lake is a good way to target that species. Don't forget to head a bit further into the fresh water to enjoy some great bass fishing.
