Weekly Report 26/10/07

Offshore: The game fishing continues to improve with striped and blue marlin encountered over the past week. Some excellent deep-water jigging for kingfish has taken place off Crowdy Head. Out wide one crew has located some bar cod and in the process discovered just how effective large circle hooks can be. Unfortunately having the hook firmly embedded in an arm cut short an otherwise great day on the cod. In closer there are still plenty of snapper on the reefs, trag after dark and flathead for those too lazy to drop the pick.
Beaches: An ample supply of dart is making it hard to get to the whiting. Salmon are still being reported up and down the coast. Most gutters are holding a few quality bream.
Rocks: A few guys are still chasing some blackfish with a degree of success. The drummer have gone quiet.
Estuary: I've lost count of the number of mulloway caught off the breakwalls in the last week. Up the lake the trumpeter whiting massacre continues every morning with local retirees all but blocking the channel with their flotilla of tinnies. Larger sand whiting have been taken on baits and poppers. Flathead are everywhere. Reports of big bream are mainly coming from the walls after dark.
