Weekly Report 16/11/07

Offshore: A big push of warm water is coming down the coast and with it hopefully the start of the mahi mahi and marlin season. Local game boats fared well at last weekend’s Hot Currents tournament at Coffs Harbour. Conditions to start with were terrible but things improved by the end of the four days. Plenty of marlin were found along with some big yellowfin tuna. Locally the snapper are still active in close and reports of bonito and kingfish are being received up and down our section of the coast.
Beaches: Not the best week of tides for beach fishing but several people out enjoying the great spring weather have done well with some quality sand whiting and the occasional stud bream. Some tailor are being reported and the salmon won’t go away.
Estuary: Fishing has been a standout. The recent rain sees the lake a bit dirty on the run-out tide and that seems to be concentrating the fish in the lower reaches. Bream, flathead and some huge whiting have been caught on all manner of bait and lures. I've lost track of the number of big Mulloway that have been caught from the breakwalls. Soft plastics have accounted for most of them.
