Weekly Report 14/12/07

Offshore: Several trailer boats have found themselves hooked up on marlin over the last week. The ongoing strong current continues to make bottom fishing difficult but the signs are that it is finally starting to slow. As an example of how difficult the conditions have been, even the Fisheries FAD has been pushed under by the weight of water heading south. Lots of reports of sharks.
Beaches and rocks: Quite a bit of swell and ongoing southerly wind have limited the beach and rock activity.
Estuary: The increase in sales of big soft plastics reflects the mulloway action on the breakwalls. If you want to use bait to target these fish, do so during the day. All you'll hook after dark are sharks. The Whiting action, particularly on poppers, continues to improve. Flathead are in big numbers around the bridge. Crabbing is slow but will improve during the summer.
