Weekly Report 25/1/08

Offshore: Refer last week’s report.
Beaches: The beach fishing is greatly improved with reports coming in from up and down our section of the coast. To our north, Diamond Beach has produced tailor in big numbers. Nine Mile Beach is holding some quality bream that are happy to take worms and pipis. Heading south, the Jannies Corner end of Seven Mile Beach is the place to catch whiting. Sources at Seal Rocks tell me that the beaches down there are full of whiting and bream.
Rocks: Still no LBG action for those chasing tuna but there are plenty of kingfish getting around.
Estuary: Storms over the last week dropped some rain in the catchment areas of the lake. The water on the run-out tide is a little dirty. This may have the effect of again concentrating a lot of fish in the lower reaches of the system. If you intend to chase flathead in this dirty water, be prepared to use a darker coloured plastic than is usually used in clear waters. Some of the bream mentioned in the beach report are also on the breakwalls. Given the water conditions, the first of the run-in tide would be a good time to target these fish. Mulloway action has been surprisingly slow, although one local went for a dive in the channel a few days back and reported plenty of fishing lying in the usual hole. Whiting and bream on lures are worth chasing on the top of the tide.
