Weekly Report 26/5/08

Post by Tony Zann » Mon May 26, 2008 1:48 am

Offshore: A fleet of game boats at sea recently for the Great Lakes Game Fishing Club's first interclub event. By day’s end black, striped and blue marlin had all been encountered. Mahi Mahi were also caught at the FAD. Day two of the event was unfortunately cancelled due to a gale warning. Offshore activities since then have been hampered by a southerly airstream and only inshore reefs have been fished. A couple of cobia, snapper to 6kg, some trag and lots of tailor have been reported. Mac tuna remain everywhere. Water temperature and quality remains good so anything is possible once the conditions improve.
Beaches: The good run of tailor and bream continues although the general consensus is that the average size is down a little. No one beach is providing standout reports.
Rocks: Not a lot to report but I believe that's more to do with the conditions than any lack of fish.
Estuary: The ABT Megabucks saw plenty of fish caught in difficult conditions. A mid-week flathead comp. has also seen lots of fish caught along with the mandatory stories of the 6kg ones that got away. The sou' westerly change triggered another run of mullet leaving the estuary and heading up the coast.
