Offshore: Apart from some snapper on the inshore reefs (before daylight) and leatherjackets in midwater, you have to get out wide and chase some bar cod and the like. The by-catch for those chasing the bar cod has been some terrific snapper and pearl perch. You have to journey out to at least the 70-fathom line to start this type of fishing.
Beaches: Plenty of effort for little reward. Tailor have been spasmodic with salmon the more likely outcome. Bream tend to be at the rocky ends of the beaches.
Rocks: Blackfish and drummer have been consistent and are the most easy to target.
Estuary: A few big tailor around The Step have pinched some expensive bream lures from a few guys. The breakwalls and bridge area will provide plenty of bream and flathead action but the size of these fish is generally small.
