Weekly Report 15/8/08

Offshore: Sou'-westerly winds won’t go away, but of course it is August and what I consider to be the low point in fishing activity in this part of the world. As has been the case in recent years, a run of bonito is currently under way. This will last for a few weeks and then they disappear again until summer. Jackets are of course still around, but have thinned out a bit. In close snapper are still to be had using plastics. It's definitely the time to put your lobster traps out.
Beaches: A few reports of bream schools moving along the beaches. The salmon don't seem to be as thick as last year, nor do the sharks they attract. Some tailor have been caught.
Rocks: Several people have commented that the drummer are a little slow at the moment, but blackfish are everywhere.
Estuary: You'll work hard for a feed at the moment. Even the blackfish guys are doing it tough. Spring can't be too far away.
