Weekly Report 12/9/08

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Sep 12, 2008 10:30 am

Offshore - Last weekends foul weather has moved on but the low pressure system that caused it continues to push a fair swell up the coast.
One intrepid angler spent the night out in sloppy conditions catching 5kg Snapper, and busted off on some even bigger ones. An early morning run to Snapper Rock or Dennis Shoal will produce smaller Snapper on both plastics and bait. The Yellowfin Tuna remain in big numbers out wide. Leatherjackets remain a pest for those on the drift for Flathead.
Beaches - The beaches copped plenty with the big swell and I don't know yet if they have formed up or been washed away.
Rock - Rock fishing has been a bit on the dangerous side but the Drummer have made a welcome return. Those who have chased Groper report outstanding results. Blackfish are still to be found at the base of Cape Hawke.
Estuary - 200mm of rain in the river catchment last weekend has the lake looking somewhat dirty on the run out tide. This has concentrated the fish in the lower part of the estuary, with the Bream fishing around the bridge and breakwalls a stand out on the run in tide. The Flathead are becoming active. Mulloway are forecast to bite over the next few days as we approach full moon. Certain customers of mine also seem to be under the influence of the coming moon!
