Weekly Report 19/9/08

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Sep 19, 2008 3:03 pm

Offshore: The best of the snapper have been caught after dark or very early in the morning. Reds to 10kg have been reported and in most cases full of roe. Inshore reefs are best. Jackets remain a nuisance, but their numbers are thinning. Morwong have been a common by-catch of those chasing snapper. A few small kings and the usual assorted reef rubbish round off the likely catch.
Beaches: Last weekend provided some joy for those addicted to sand. Another good run of tailor on Seven Mile Beach was the pick of the action.
Rocks: I spoke with a few groups who braved the rocks. Most were after either blackfish or drummer and all reported good results.
Estuary: The lake continues to clear up and should be back to its best in time for the upcoming school holidays. The best of the bream fishing has been done by those that prefer bait. Several lure fishos commented that the bream were very slow to take a lure, be it soft or hard. Flathead continue to improve in numbers, and some early season whiting have been caught. Mulloway action is almost non-existent.
