Weekly Report 12/12/08

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Dec 12, 2008 3:31 pm

Offshore: Summer is on the way with a number of small and not so small black marlin sighted in close last weekend. Windy mid-week weather has kept boats close to home so I haven't any up-to date reports on the FAD. Trag and snapper are still on the chew and the large schools of slimies are still building. More reports of big kingfish at Seal Rocks.
Beaches: The last few mornings have provided some welcome tailor and bream on Seven Mile Beach to the south of town. Other beaches have coughed up a few small whiting, but little else.
Rocks: The rocks at Jannies had the same tailor and bream as mentioned above.
Estuary: Several mulloway up to 25kg have been landed from the Tuncurry breakwall in the last few days. Baits and plastics have been successful. The bream have been quiet in the lower parts but further up the lake the fishing has really heated up. Weed beds between Green Point and Coomba Park are worth visiting. Several sand whiting 42-45cm have fallen to poppers on flats just up from the bridge. Flathead are everywhere and will eat just about any bait or lure put in front of them.
