Weekly Report 27/7/09

Post by Tony Zann » Mon Jul 27, 2009 10:09 am

The patch of warmer water sitting off our part of the coast that I mentioned last week has at least two Striped Marlin in it. A local game boat checked for more over the weekend and I’ll have the report next week. Reefs in close off Blackhead produced some nice plate size snapper. Those fishing wider and deeper were plagued by leatherjackets. There are reports of some big kingfish but details are sketchy. Those fishing Latitude Rock report more bream than anything else. Bar cod are being caught out wide in about 150m of water, but you need the right boat, gear and weather to make it happen.
Those fishing beaches and rocks report that salmon are now in big numbers. With these usually come some big sharks. Big blackfish are coming from well-known rock platforms like Jannies Corner. The Drummer have gone quiet.
The estuary fishing has been slow. Some bream and an increasing number of blackfish are being reported. Mulloway reports are almost non-existent.
