13/1/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Jan 13, 2006 9:29 am

Offshore: As I write on Friday morning, three boats have headed wide in search of marlin. Offshore conditions have been poor for at least a week. Some trailer boats got out yesterday and reported plenty of snapper, flathead and as many bonito as you want at Latitude Rock. I haven't spoken to anyone who got to the FAD, but it would be worth a visit. With the previously mentioned bonito around, the kings and cobia are always close by.
Beaches: A little bit of red weed came ashore a few days ago but not to the extent being experienced by those at Port Macquarie. Southerly air flow should see the weed leave us alone. Small whiting and tailor are on offer.
Rocks: No LBG action to report.
Estuary: Lots of mulloway activity in the lower part of the estuary system. Chris from Forster Beach Caravan Park has had some trouble stopping school jew on 4lb Fireline. Last weekend’s rain now sees some colour in the lake at the bottom of the tide. Fishing for flathead and whiting has been great, with the dirty water producing increased bream activity. Plenty of good mud crab reports coming in.
