Offshore: Deep-water fishing continues to provide good captures of kingfish, bar cod and nannygai. In closer, the reefs after dark have provided mixed results on trag. Leatherjackets and flathead round out the fish on offer at the moment. The snapper fishing on the reefs has been disappointing, with a few morwong the likely result.
Another small run of tailor on the beaches has been welcome along with the mild conditions. Salmon are still to be expected as by-catch. If you can pull a few beach worms or dig a couple of pipis, try rigging for sand whiting. Those fishing beaches to our north tell me that schools of whiting are being encountered. Small mulloway have also been caught by those using beach worms.
Little if anything to reports from those fishing the rocks.
Last weekend saw an unusual number of small snapper caught from the end of the Tuncurry breakwall. mostly by those targeting bream. The best of these went 2.4kg, caught by Dan.
Reasonable quantities of prawns have been running after dark with the result that those using prawn lures or the genuine article have done best when fishing the lake. Bream, flathead and some large sand whiting have come from well up the system. The lower sections have not fished as well as expected. Mulloway activity remains poor.
