Offshore: The snapper fishing has been excellent. A push of warm water from up north is almost upon us and with it could come a change of fishing seasons. I'm aware of a few decent schools of bonito already in the area, particularly around Latitude Rock. With these can come the occasional bigger kingfish. I'm not aware if the FAD has been repositioned just yet, the DPI website still shows it 'out for winter maintenance'. Once repositioned, the FAD usually attracts kingfish prior to the really warm water arriving and with it the mahi mahi.
Beach and rock fishing should be good with excellent dawn and dusk tides and a new moon this Sunday. Salmon and tailor are worth targeting. The occasional bream and whiting might show up for those using worms or pipis for bait.
Prawns are currently moving on the evening run-out tide. The fishing has therefore been at its best during the darker hours. Little if any mulloway action has come from the breakwalls. As has been the case in recent weeks, a journey a little bit further up the lake where the water isn't so clear is bringing better results.
