Offshore fishing last weekend brought very mixed results. Those that headed well north bagged out on Snapper and Pearl Perch Those that went straight out or a little to our south got nothing, and those that fished well to our south off Seal Rocks encountered some unstoppable Kingfish. One of these giant Kingfish was taken by a spear fisherman and weighed 35kg. The reefs off Seal Rocks will also provide an excellent mixed bag of reef fish.
Fishing the beaches and rocks at Seal Rocks will also see you encounter lots of small to medium size Mulloway, particularly when using fresh beach worms as bait. A Tailor of 7kg was recently taken in that area. Whiting and Salmon are also on offer. Fishing the beaches and rocks after dark will guarantee an encounter with a large toothy critter.
The local estuary fishing has really improved with plenty of Flathead now happy to take all manner of baits and lures. Surface lures are now taking their fair share of Bream with the Sand Whiting only just starting to be encountered. Several big Mulloway around the 25kg mark have been taken by those fishing the breakwall.
