Weekly Report 31/12/09

Post by Tony Zann » Thu Dec 31, 2009 2:38 pm

Estuary: The flathead in the Lake are firing well with a lot of customers providing healthy reports of good bag limits on whitebait on the drift from a boat. Shore fishers are succeeding with soft plastics with Tsunami 3” and 4” pre-rigged or Gulps the pick of the bunch. Fish of 40cm-plus aplenty with one customer from Sydney landing her first fish in her life – 74.5cm. Good size whiting are still around with good catches caught around the base of the bridge on live pink nippers. For something different try Gulp Worms in camo and natural colours. Tony from Forster Estuary Charters says some of his customers have landed a few small snapper in the lake.
Mulloway are still lazing around along the Tuncurry breakwall with fish to 22kg landed this week. Most nights at least one has been landed.
Rocks: Nothing to report – again!
Offshore: Not much except Peter Lovell from On Strike Charters has landed a few good snapper and morwong on the reefs plus a rod-breaking manta ray on Wednesday morning. Crowdy Head was very disappointing with only a few large flatties. Water temp is down to 19° offshore. A few reports of trags down off Seal Rocks.
Beach: Good whiting down off Janie’s Corner with the odd shovelnose shark giving the holidaymakers some good fun. One customer also landed and bought into the shop a prize bream, caught at Janie’s on fresh mullet fillets, measuring 53cm.
Great Lakes Tackle staff wish everyone a happy New Year. We will be open every day during the holiday season to assist all your fishing needs.
