Weekly Report 8/1/10

Estuary: Prawns will start to run tonight with the first of the dark. Try the lake anytime from 9pm onwards over the next few days to take advantage of the run out tide. Flathead are still the staple catch in the lake with nearly all customers reporting good catches. Catches are still being achieved on whitebait on the drift from a boat or shore-based soft plastics with Gulps the pick of the bunch. FM Reporter Dave Seaman braved the lake early one morning before others awoke and was rewarded with good bream of 800g and 1.3kg caught near the bridge on the run-out tide.
The upper reaches of the Wallamba River are working well with good bream landed on lures. The Hawk ‘Chunk’ lures are the pick. Flathead are working well close to the Tuncurry Lakeside Village Caravan Park with many holidaymakers working the shore with soft plastics.
Rocks: Again nobody seems to be fishing the rocks!
Offshore: Robbie from Forster Fishing Charters has reported that a few yellowfin have been landed – one 6kg and one 9kg. Plenty of bonito around and plenty of birds working the surface indicating that the fish are around. Water temp has started to rise again up to 21° close to shore and 24° out at the 90-fathom mark, where we received a report of a blue marlin caught weighing around 50kg, with 6 hits at the 70 fathom mark and one hook-up.
Beach: Still a few whiting and bream up near Diamond Beach with live beach worms or fresh mullet fillets the pick of the baits. The southern end of Seven Mile Beach has also rewarded holidaymakers with good bream and mulloway up to 10kg just on dusk.
