27/1/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Jan 27, 2006 10:56 am

Offshore: Another great week for offshore fishing. Striped marlin have again been common, with the small blacks not yet in big numbers. Several mulloway have come from Snapper Rock among the schools of bonito. The occasional cobia is being taken. Small sharks are around most reefs. All reefs will provide snapper, the odd pearl perch and trag after dark.
Beaches: Small tailor have been caught the last few mornings before sun-up. The coming week should see the beaches fish better than they have over the past seven days. Whiting are the alternative to tailor, with the occasional accidental bream capture to be expected.
Rocks: No LBG action yet!
Estuary: Quality mulloway have been coming from the breakwalls over the past week, most on soft plastics. The prawns are running so fishing in the evening is often more productive than the middle of the day. If you’re sick of catching flathead, head up the rivers and try surface lures for bream. Using live prawns after dark will see you encounter some monster whiting.
