Weekly Report 12/2/10

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Feb 12, 2010 10:32 am

Estuary: The top of the lake around the islands has been producing nice mid-40cm flathead along with reports this week of good 65–70cm females released among the smaller ones. Photos have been sighted in the shop. With the prawns on this week, the bream chasers have done well on small Gulp 2” Baby Shrimp around the oyster racks with some nice 700g-plus fish landed. A few reports also received are that poppers are still working well on both bream and whiting.
A few small (69cm) kingfish have been landed on the breakwall on the Forster side. Jewfish are still on the bite either on large soft plastics or on live pike, which are being caught near the inspector’s wharf or under the main bridge on small gold colour lures.
Customers have reported nice blackfish caught on local cabbage around the end of Taree Street.
Bass are plentiful up the Wallamba River nearer to Nabiac, working late in the afternoon on darker lures. A few reports of bass also have been landed high up in the Coolongolook River.
Rocks: Local fisherman Mick Jones braved the rough seas last weekend near Cape Hawke and was rewarded with a good mixed bag of drummer and nice healthy oversize blackfish. Suggestion is to fish the rough white water.
Offshore: Absolutely no reports this week due to inclement seas. Water temp is still up around 24°–25° along the coast so I envisage that this weekend should fish well as the seas flatten down, making fishing more comfortable.
Beach: No reports here also.
A reminder to all anglers of the restrictions of the marine park zoning in our area. Please be vigilant at all times of your position while fishing, especially around the Pinnacles and the Seal Rocks areas. Free Marine Park maps are available from our store.
