Weekly Report 19/2/10

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Feb 19, 2010 4:50 pm

Estuary: With the weather fining up this week more anglers have hit the water with good results had by most. The main Wallis Lake is still producing good flathead mainly on soft plastics, however one holiday maker landed 6 nice fish on the run out tide drifting with Hawkesbury prawns. Eight large bream were caught on the turn of the tide on bottle squid adjacent to the fishermen’s co-op by casting the bait close to the moored boats.
Reports are still coming in that the blackfish are biting at the end of Taree Street along the banks.
Three nice jewfish all around 20-25lb have been landed this week on the run-out tide along the breakwall on the Tuncurry side on live pike or on the faithful larger size plastics.
Rocks: Not many reports except a few bream off Janies Corner.
Offshore: Much better fishing this week with reports from the commercial boats indicating that good mahi mahi are being landed out at the FAD, with water temp around 24°. A few marlin out wide off Nelson Bay. Bonito are still on the boil off Latitude Rock with most anglers coming away with the bag limit each day. Robbie from Forster Fishing Charters reported nice longtail caught around 4.5 /2 miles off Cape Hawke along with plenty of hammerhead sharks.
Beach: Tuncurry Main Beach and right along Nine Mile has rewarded all with good quality dart.
