Weekly Report 26/2/10

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Feb 26, 2010 1:42 pm

Estuary: This week has seen the regular return of nice jewfish on the Tuncurry Breakwall with some up to 40lb on live pike or live mullet. All fish were caught on the run-out tide. For those chasing live pike for bait try a small Trollcraft Lightning Minnow in gold/black back.
Flathead caught near the main road bridge – one angler landed 4 nice fish on Guzzlerz Prongs in electric chicken. The lake flatties are still on the bite with good results on Hawkesbury prawns or Squidgy Pro Range Wrigglers.
Regular tourist Jimmy Eastman from Newcastle has mastered the bream this week, fishing the slack water around the leases using mullet gut. Jim was proud to visit the shop on Monday morning and display his catch of 7 nice bream around 600g with the best 1.153kg.
Rocks: Only a few reports this week with one report of kingfish down south near Charlotte Head. Regular visitor Bob Penfold and mate fished close to the shore line (10m) in the whitewater and were lucky to pick up some nice tailor. They fished the rocks between the end of One Mile Beach and Burgess Beach.
Offshore: Still plenty of bonito around the Hawke with a few trag off Seal Rocks. A few more reports of marlin out wide of Nelson Bay. Tailor close to shore along the Tanks up to Bennetts Head.
Beach: Seven Mile Beach down near Booti Booti has had a good run of small soapy jewfish up to 4kg. Some tailor have come in on the northern end of Elizabeth Beach in the bumpy water.
