Weekly Report 16/4/10

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Apr 16, 2010 4:13 pm

Estuary: Tony from Forster Estuary Charters has reported good catches of extra large flathead this week on most of his charters, sending his customers home with a big smile and very satisfied. Tony suggests trying all the flats around the back of Mather Island for the best results. Hawkesbury prawns and mullet strips are the pick of the baits. Wallis Lake is full of herring at the moment with most reports of six fish at a time being landed on small bait jigs – great bait for those chasing jewfish along the Tuncurry Breakwall. Nice bream being landed around the back of Godwin Island in the oyster racks of up to a kilo, plus the racks in Beaky Bay are also fishing well. The Wallamba River is producing nice flatties around the plate size of 45cm plus still a good supply of blue swimmer crabs in the Lake. Trap bait of bonito frames or heads are working the best. Blackfish are still plentiful around the breakwall on cabbage or stringy weed if you can source some.
Rocks: Not many reports this week, although those that did do some fishing last weekend reported good drummer near Janies Corner. The land-based game fisherman reported a few longtails around Charlottes. Bonito still on the chew.
Offshore: Again only a few reports of some nice reds around Crowdy – again all caught on 7” Gulps. Fishing down off Seal Rocks is also providing most with good catches of reds. Plenty of baitfish swarming the surface with the water temp up at 24° should start to produce some good fish.
Beach: Tailor are back again with good sizes being landed by most mainly in the early morning. Most reports are from anglers fishing Nine Mile Beach.
