Weekly report 27/4/10

Estuary: Winter just does not seem to be making its way to our area with fishing still at its best. The lake is still producing very nice flathead up to the mid 50cm mark with the bream now starting to fire well. Those that fish with baits should target the flathead with either whitebait on a small gang rig and for the bream Hawkesbury prawns or chicken/mullet gut is working the best. The bream among the oyster racks have played this well taking either hardbody Lucky Craft Cra-Peas or Atomic Hardz.
Still a good supply of blue swimmer crabs in the Lake. The main Tuncurry harbour wall is producing nice blackfish. Jewfish are back on the wall and have been taking live pike or large 9” soft plastics on the run-out tide. Three fish around 25lb have been landed this week.
Rocks: No first-hand reports this week, although the shop spies have seen fishermen landing drummer, blackfish and bream along most of the area’s rocky shoreline
Offshore: Robbie from Forster Charters reports that offshore is fishing exceptionally well over the last few days with good size flathead on the gravel patches. Cobia have been taken off the Graveyard and up north a few trag have been caught at night. Robbie also reports that out wide at the 60-fathom mark is a mass of large leatherjackets, and the mahi mahi are still out around the FAD chasing slimies or large bibbed lures. Many good reports from customers who have done well on snapper around 5kg up off Old Bar.
Beach: Still plenty of tailor with a few nice bream.
