Weekly Report 7/5/10

Post by Tony Zann » Fri May 07, 2010 5:14 pm

Estuary: The perfect weather has certainly played into the hands of most anglers with reports of very good size bream being caught up in the Lake on bait or hard bodied lures. Mullet gut is proving to be the pick of the baits and lure fishers should stick to small chunk-style hardbody lures and fish around the oyster racks. The breakwall is still fishing well with a few nice mulloway up to 30lb landed on the last of the run-out tide.
Robbie Thorington fished the Tuncurry side of the bridge near the Fisheries office last Friday and was rewarded with some nice flathead up to 1.7kg on 100mm drop bear Squidgies.
Blackfish are still plentiful along the Tuncurry breakwall although green weed or cabbage is proving hard to come by.
Rock: Not much to report this week, although I have received a report of a few kings still hanging around near the Tanks up to Bennetts Head. Latitude Rock still has plenty of bonito and the odd small snapper. LBG reports this week have been nil.
Offshore: Very quiet at the moment with only those willing to travel far out to the FAD being rewarded with plenty of mixed size mahi mahi. Some nice reds still around Seal Rocks. Large numbers of baitfish spotted on the surface in many offshore locations.
Beach: A few good reports of bream down off the northern end of Boomerang Beach and some good salmon included in the catch. Nine Mile Beach at the back of the caravan park has also had a few salmon along with a smattering of tailor.
