3/2/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Feb 03, 2006 8:14 am

Offshore: Areas like Snapper Rock and Latitude Rock are holding enormous amounts of bait and are the places to try for some big predators. A lot of mulloway have come from reefs after dark, as have trag. The trag fishing through the day has also been a feature. If you venture to the FAD live bait is a must, otherwise rat mahi mahi are all you'll find. Bonito are in big numbers if you want to stock up on bait. Billfish action is consistent with most boats averaging a fish a trip.
Beaches: Some better quality tailor came off Tuncurry Beach mid-morning on February 2 (Thursday). This was the first decent report for weeks. Whiting are on offer along with as many dart as you want.
Rocks: A few guys have reported some quality bream. No LBG action yet, but the area at the base of Cape Hawke has plenty of bait fish.
Estuary: Lake conditions are ideal with warm water and plenty of fish. Bigger bream have been in action in the lower part of the estuary, with those fishing early mornings on the last days of the prawn dark getting their arms pulled off. Flathead activity remains high and blue swimmer crabs are that common you can sight-fish for them. Whiting numbers are good.
