Weekly Report 28/6/10

Post by Tony Zann » Mon Jun 28, 2010 9:51 am

Estuary: The main breakwall is still producing nice sized bream. Fish the slack water and top of the tide for the best results. Good reports of nice bream and flathead under the main bridge on the Tuncurry side. Best flathead report for the week (with photo evidence sighted!) was 115cm and weighing in at 18lb. The best bream was 930g. Blackfish are still on the bite with some anglers doing very well while others are struggling to land a fish. Get on the wall early to get a spot! Down south in the lake around Black Rocks off Coomba Park has produced catches off small snapper and one shop regular landed three nice giant trevally last weekend.
Rocks: Still good reports from the rockhoppers with great fish being landed. Janies Corner is firing at the moment with plenty of reports of nice tailor up around a kilo but plenty of anglers have hit the schools of big fish up to 2.5kg.
Offshore: Make sure you take plenty of wire traces offshore as the jackets are there in a big way. Bag limits within an hour are not uncommon with some fish larger than the fish box. Big snapper have started to frequent the nearby reefs with Blackhead fishing well. Last weekend saw the last fishing day of the year for the Blackhead FC with one member weighing in a 10kg red – cleaned, it ended up 7.55kg.
Beach: A few reports from the regulars that still a plentiful supply of tailor on both Seven Mile and Nine Mile. Ganged pillies are the pick however chrome spinners are still working well. Still a by catch of salmon on both beaches.
