Weekly Report 6/8/10

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Aug 06, 2010 2:23 pm

Estuary: The jewfish are thin off the Tuncurry Breakwall with mainly only ‘soapies’ around 60cm, but anyone that wants to head North and try the Harrington Breakwall should be rewarded with larger fish. Luderick anglers are still bagging out most days with the breakwall and Tern Island the pick of the spots. Neville Harris fished the Wallamba River this week and landed 7 nice flatties over 50cm and picked up some nice 700g bream. All were caught on 3” Gulp minnows. Bream are still feeding well off the bridge pylons with the pick of the baits mullet gut.
Rock: A good week of rough seas will certainly give rockhoppers something to smile about. With kelp and cunjevoi washing around everywhere at the moment, fish are in a feeding frenzy. The big bump has produced some whopper pigs this week, but keep your eye on the seas and be careful.
Offshore: No reports this week as anyone that ventured out turned around fairly quickly. Those that did put up with the joggle caught, yep you guessed it, more jackets. Many anglers are a little disgruntled at this but a box of jackets is better than coming home empty handed. Go out prepared for them with deep sea rigs and trace wire. A good tip is coat some wire with baited hands and cast these out the front of your boat. The jackets will amass onto this and allow you (hopefully) to get your line down to the bottom to grab those nice reds and the flatties. Good luck!
Beach: Janies Corner is still firing well with some great tailor and salmon. Fish the run in tide and late afternoon but stay on once the tide is at the top. Most of the other beaches are fishing well with nice bream being caught mainly down the southern end of Seven Mile and off Elizabeth.
