Weekly Report 27/8/10

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Aug 27, 2010 9:49 am

Estuary: A few good reports have come through of some terrific bream fishing throughout the Lake. The fish caught were quite silver in colour, indicating that the last week or so of big seas may have pushed these ‘hubcaps’ into the Lake system. Small TT jig heads with squidgy wrigglers or Gulp 2’ Minnow Grubs were the successful lures. For the bait anglers, bonito or striped tuna fillets seem to be working best.
Still a few nice blackfish around the Black Boat or across on Tern Island just on sunrise – tides here lately don’t seem to matter! The Breakwall is so-so with a few small jew, while out on the end, salmon seem to be on the bite.
Rocks: A continuation of what has been one of the best drummer season is on everyone’s lips at the moment. Dave Seaman has reported landing some very nice pigs anywhere along the stones close to town. Numerous good reports have filtered through of a mass of blue groper everywhere – hang on, as these big guys pull hard! Last weekend’s postcard conditions right along the shoreline had the blackfish and bream around Cape Hawke on fire.
Offshore: Snapper Rock last weekend produced some nice fish. The boys from Seal Rocks report down south firing as well with a few kings mixed in with the reds. Most reefs up north are producing nice fish up to 4kg. Leatherjackets are still around but generally their numbers are decreasing.
Beach: The tailor fishing over the last few days has been outstanding with some nice fish being landed on Seven Mile Beach and around Janies Corner. Still good salmon on most beaches.
