Weekly Report 28/10/10

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Oct 29, 2010 2:20 pm

Estuary: Another good week on the lake with whiting the pick of the bunch. The Step has been producing nice trumpeters plus a few bonus sand whiting up to 40cm. The best time is on sunrise and a flood tide. Some have fished with sandworms but the anglers that have chosen soft plastic 2” worms have outfished the bait boys this week. The back of Lani’s Caravan Park off Tonys Island is also firing well for the guys that like to use poppers.
Blue swimmer crabs have also started back with witches’ hats picking a feed up off the side of dago island. Mud crabs in the Wallamba River banks are also plentiful.
Flathead are well and truly here to stay for the next few months with regular flathead hunters getting their bag limits most days on the last hour or so of the ebb tide. Chopper tailor have been sighted en masse around The Step and the back of Cockatoo Island. Forster Breakwall has produced a few small jew up to 10kg.
Rocks: Not many reports but those that have given me some info have been successful on the pigs around the end of One Mile near Bennetts Head.
Offshore: A great week with plenty of reports of nice snapper up to 7kg down south, a change from last week where down south were only rubbish fish. Still plenty of trag at night and early morning plus the gravel grounds are producing nice flatties up to 65cm.
Beach: Not much activity other than small tailor on Nine Mile most mornings. Salmon still around with a few nice bream on Seven Mile down the back of Tiona.
