Weekly report 30/1/11

Post by Tony Zann » Sun Jan 30, 2011 10:26 am

Estuary: Hit the lake for the early nights of the prawn dark. Run-out tide and no moon will give pleasing results, with a report in from Thursday night of 4 litres caught. Remember that we have greasyback prawns within our lake system so a cotton prawn scoop is essential. Nice flathead are being lifted out around the back of Cockatoo Island and on the drift near Mosquito island using DOA Shrimp lures. Wallamba River is fishing well up at Nabiac and beyond with a reliable source reporting bass around 28cm common with one angler landing a nice 54cm fish. Coolongolook River is loaded with nice bream, with small hardbody lures the pick.
A few good size Jew on the Tuncurry Breakwall, however more smaller school jew seem to be the main catch.
Rock: Still a good run of large to XL salmon off Janies Corner and along Seven Mile Beach. A few reports of bonito off Bennetts Head and along the Tanks.
Offshore: Good reports from the boys at Lakes & Ocean Hotel Fishing Club from their last outing: 195 fish weighing 183kg was the day’s weigh-in result, with mixed trag, snapper, flathead, nannygai and bonito. A lot of baitfish are around being worked by both the birds and dolphins and in turn bringing the good catches. Two reports of large pearl perch being landed down south and good size reds still on the chew out wide off Hallidays Point.
Beach: Plenty of reports this week of salmon along the two main beaches along with plenty of school jew. Dart are still around on Seven Mile. The nor’-easters have started to create some good structure and gutters along the beach which should in turn over the next week or so return some good beach fishing.
