Weekly Report 4/2/11

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Feb 04, 2011 4:43 pm

Estuary: The blue swimmer crabs have been a highlight of the past week with a lot of reports of good catches. Mud crabs in the Wallamba River near the back of the ski park have been around along with a few being caught within the oyster leases in Beaky Bay. Big jewfish seem to have headed on holidays but the small school jew are en masse on the wall and beaches. Flathead remain throughout the lower parts of the lake, along with some quality whiting down off Green Point.
Rock: A few locals from Seal Rocks way have been successful in targeting some large bream and bonito. A few guys also landed some small kingfish. No reports as yet for the longtails.
Offshore: Large schools of bonito remain in the area. A few mahi mahi have been found at the FAD on the drift. Several reports of trag caught day and night. The reefs are still producing mixed bags with small reds plentiful.
Beach: The beaches have started to produce a smattering of tailor which is common for this time. The next few weeks should start to fire better with quality fish. Bream and whiting are common at the moment with a few salmon still around joining the shovelnose sharks.
