Weekly Report 28/2/11

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Feb 25, 2011 2:29 pm

Estuary: The lake is still healthy with good catches of garfish down at the Step most days. Flathead are still on the bite with the area near the bridge on the Tuncurry side firing well this week. Fish around 55cm are common with the odd large ‘girl’ among them. Good bream have been hauled out of the racks down at The Paddock. Mostly these fish are being caught on small Maria hardbodies or Rapala X-Rap X4 lures. Tuncurry Breakwall is fishing extremely well for mulloway with school jew plentiful. Reports of a few large mulloway off the Forster Wall along with a lot of reports of anglers spooled by those big fish. Swimmers and muddies are still around in the lake and up the rivers.
Rock: Not much to report other than a few kings off Charlottes Head and a few bonito among them.
Offshore: Again not many reports due to the southerly winds hanging around. Of the reports I have received it seems that trag are plentiful along with smaller snapper around 1.5kg. Normal reef rubbish such as sergeant baker and nannygai have been causing problems for those chasing reds.
Beach: Tailor and salmon are still thick along all beaches. Bream are on the chew along Tuncurry Beach with pipis or large prawns the pick of the baits. A few reports of good sized jew up off Blackhead Beach.
