Weekly Report 20/5/11

Post by Tony Zann » Fri May 20, 2011 3:37 pm

Estuary: A week of good fishing with luderick anglers delighted at the number of fish along the breakwall. Although obtaining weed is a problem within the immediate area, those that have ventured away from town and sourced weed elsewhere have been rewarded for their efforts. Early morning is the pick with the breakwall from the entrance right down to the black boat firing. Bream are still very active along the wall and right back to the bridge on the Tuncurry side, with a few reports of nice fish along Forster Shoreline near the back of Ronald McDonald House. The lake is producing nice bream along the weed beds, leases and the island shorelines. Reports also of large tailor cruising in schools in the lake.
Rock: Not much news from the stones as the seas have again pounded the shore all week, making conditions dangerous. Janies Corner has been somewhat safe and the reports are that mixed bags of bream, tailor and a few small jew have been caught. The sad part of this week is that despite radio reports asking anglers to avoid the rocks, fishos still go down and throw a line. I have received one report from a very experienced rock fisherman who this week left his rod in the shed. Venturing down to his fishing spots for a look, he found 2 fishermen playing cat and mouse with the seas – guys, your life is worth more than a few fish and if you want fish that bad, the Co-op is open 7 days a week!
Offshore: No recreational reports this week, however the commercial guys have indicated that snapper, trag, and cobia are around. No sizes to report, sorry.
Beach: Beaches are firing well still despite the seas. Nice tailor are common on most beaches with Tuncurry Beach up at the Tip still the best. Plenty of salmon are being caught on the various southern beaches around Boomerang south as far as Seal Rocks.
