Weekly Report 26/5/11

Post by Tony Zann » Thu May 26, 2011 3:54 pm

Estuary: An outstanding week on the breakwall with blackfish, mulloway, bream and tailor all plentiful. Bream over 1kg have been very common along the wall with Hawkesbury prawns and slimy fillets the pick of the baits. Mulloway are still climbing onto hooks with a few reports of fish up to 20kg but mostly around 7-10kg common. Dave Seaman has fished the wall successfully over the last week for mulloway on 7” Gulps. The cutaway of the breakwall near the Tuncuury Bridge has been full of flathead over the last week with reports of fish around 40-50cm common. Gulp 3” Shrimps have been the standout. Further up the lake has been OK with diehard locals still getting good bream among the racks, and good schools of chopper tailor also about.
Rocks: With the strong SW winds and very big seas the rock fishing has been very quiet. Those that have been braving the elements have told me that winter species such as drummer, blackfish and groper have been common. The Tanks has fished very well with Robbie Thorrington getting quality tailor last Wednesday on our shop-made ½ x ¼ metal lures.
Offshore: 11 members from the Lakes & Ocean Fishing Club at Forster fished last Sunday. Large pearlies (3.7kg the best), jackets (1.6kg), and snapper were all weighed in. A total of 195 fish were caught, weighing a total of 159kg. Heaviest fish of the day was a samson at 5.166kg.
Beach: Salmon and tailor have been everywhere covering all beaches. The seas have moved the structure around a bit along the shores so gutters are deeper in places and have filled with quality fish. Sharks have added to the fun for some and have caused a lot of gear loss for others.
