Weekly Report 8/7/11

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Jul 08, 2011 2:30 pm

Estuary: Another good week in the lake with a good percentage of the floodwater flushed out to sea. The Paddock is about as far as one needs to go to get a good feed of quality fat bream. Soft plastics such as Squidgy Wrigglers or Gulp 2” Minnows are as popular as ever, rigged up on small jigheads and cast along the racks. Nothing uncommon this week for anglers to land bream up to 40cm. Those that are bait fishing are also getting results with Hawkesbury prawns the pick or if you can get them, live beach worms. Blackfish are abundant with Point Road fishing well. Greg and Rocky have fished most mornings just on sunup and have landed fish in the low 30cm range. The breakwall near the black boat is also rewarding most luderick anglers. A few reports of chopper tailor chasing bait fish along the back of Long Island and near the entrance to the Wallamba River around The Cut. The breakwall has produced a few mulloway although only around 5kg.
Rocks: No reports this week.
Offshore: Plenty of happy anglers have fished offshore with great results. Greg Horan reports that he and Jim fished 8km due east of the breakwall last Sunday for a great bag of snapper. All fish were caught before dawn. Greg also reported that he released over 35 fish just shy of the legal 30cm. After sunrise things changed, with the onslaught of leatherjackets. Every report I have received this week (over 15) has mentioned that they have arrived. Jackets over 65cm are common with bag limits (20) reached within 30 minutes. Trag have been common before dawn.
Beach: Very quiet at the moment unless you are a fan of salmon. The beaches are still to recover from the bad weather with gutters virtually non existent. Bream are still happy to feed with good sized fish caught around Tiona on tuna strips.

Great report, read it every week. Bit concerned any fish released after ascending the water depth 8Klm offshore will survive.
