Estuary: Not a bad week considering all the fresh that is still running into the lake. The fresh can be of a benefit to us all as it flushes out the rubbish and starts a new food chain. Good reports of stacks of blackfish along the breakwall and the shoreline on Point Rd. It seems that just on sunup is producing the best results. Tuncurry Bridge pylons have worked well for those chasing bream. Floating bait down along the pylon is working well with bream over 1.2kg common. Fish light with a baitholder hook (1/0 or 2/0) and a small ball sinker to suit the current.
The breakwall has been a little quiet for those fishing for jew. With the mullet run now done and dusted it looks like the jew have followed them although the odd big fish is still being caught. Wallis Island near Hells Gate has a few garfish hanging around along with small chopper tailor presumably chasing them.
Rock: The Tanks is working well with spinning metals working best. Tailor and salmon have hit them hard. Basic ½ x ¼ flats seem to be the best at the moment. Blackfish are lurking off all the shorelines and mixed in among them are quality bream. Dave Haddock and son from Taree fished Bennetts Head on Sunday with pillie cubes for a mixed bag of 5 bream and 4 blackfish.
Offshore: Offshore is still firing with the 70m mark producing quality reds and trag. The Barge is fishing well with good-sized flathead common. All reefs are still producing outstanding results with reds over 6kg very common. Blackhead Reef is another hot spot at the moment for those that want a close reef with results.
Beach: Good one day and hopeless the next! Mixed results of some anglers getting good greenback tailor while others are struggling to get a hook-up. Still plenty of nice sea bream along Seven Mile with the northern end near Janies the best.
