Weekly Report 5/8/11

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Aug 05, 2011 3:53 pm

Estuary: Still plenty of nice bream along the breakwall and down around the deep water near Hells Gate. I fished the back of Wallis Island last Saturday from Hells Gate down to Dago Island for some quality bream on the run-out tide. 2” Gulps on 1/12 oz jigheads worked well. Equally as good were unweighted baits of striped tuna fillet or mullet fillet floated down in the tide. Plenty of blackfish around the back of Black Boat and along the foreshore on Point Road.
Rock: A few reports of nice drummer off the rocks near Elizabeth Beach. The plonk holes along the shoreline are fishing well. Drop a bait into the holes as the sea runs out for good results. A few salmon and tailor have also been caught along The Tanks on metal flats.
Offshore: Last weekend you could not have asked for better conditions. Many anglers went wide with some out to the shelf. Sam Marlow fished the shelf for a good catch of bar cod from 6kg up to 14kg. Plenty of morwong out on the gravel beds in about 25m. Snapper from 2kg to 10kg-plus common.
Beach: Various reports of bream and whiting along Seven Mile taking beach worms. Small ‘soapie’ jew along Nine Mile up the northern end closer to Blackhead just on dark.
