Weekly Report 9/9/11

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Sep 09, 2011 3:33 pm

Estuary: A very good week for those fishing the lake and its tributaries. The flathead have certainly arrived en masse with many anglers reporting fish over 60cm very common. Most success from those using mullet or tuna strip baits but Gulp 3” Shrimp soft plastics are working just as well. Bream are still plentiful with one report of over 20 fish in three hours caught on Squidgy Wrigglers on a standard hook with no weight. The trick here is letting the lure slowly sink along the oyster rack walls and waiting for the hit. Still plenty of luderick along the breakwall and Point Road up from the launching ramp.
Rock: Nothing to report this week.
Offshore: Plenty of success out on the gravel beds for those chasing flathead. Double hook-ups are common. Snapper on the northern reefs are still common but the size seems to have dropped down to 1.5 – 2kg. Robbie from Forster Fishing Charters reports that the trag are there but are timid and not biting as they should be. Plenty of sharks around feasting on catches as they come to the surface.
Beach: Salmon are on most beaches. Tailor have been landed down on Seven Mile and Janies Corner is rewarding anglers with quality bream. Diamond Beach is firing well for bream and some medium-sized whiting. A few small jewfish have been landed just on sunset on the northern end of Nine Mile at the back of the carpark down from the Bowling Club.
We are now open on Sundays from 9am to 3pm, Monday to Saturday 8am to 5pm.
