Weekly Report 2/12/11

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Dec 02, 2011 3:21 pm

Estuary: A so-so week in the lake and rivers with a great deal of fresh water filling the estuary after last week’s deluge. The salinity in the lower lake near the bridge and Breckenridge Channel has come up over the last few days and has improved fishing. Good reports of whiting are common plus some good size flathead have been taken on the run-out tide along the Breckenridge. Drifting with Hawkesbury prawns or flicking soft plastics on the drift will work best. Whiting have been taking Gulp 2” camo worms and Squidgy Wrigglers. Reports of large scales on the rocks along the Tuncurry Breakwall indicate a few good mulloway have been landed along the wall.
Rock: Absolutely no reports!
Offshore: The southerly wind has kept most boats on trailers this week. A few local anglers did fish on Monday and Tuesday and came home with mixed boxes of flathead, snapper and trag. Catches were in small numbers with some anglers reporting it took two hours to get a fish on board. Commercial fishers have given me the heads up that plenty of cod are out wide plus plate size snapper are still plentiful along most reefs.
Beach: Pretty quiet. A few reports of mulloway off Blackhead and Diamond beaches. Old Bar and Harrington are working well as well with salmon and mulloway after dark.
Pray for some good weather!
