Weekly Report 27/1/12

Estuary: Those that have braved the absolutely crook weather this week have come home wet but smiling. The lake is still putting on a show with excess quantities of flathead and whiting. Mixed reports of what’s catching what but most anglers are hitting the flathead successfully on the DOA 3” Shrimp soft plastics while the whiting are quite happy to munch on a Gulp 2” Worm in either bloody or natural colours. Bait anglers are getting results on mullet strips and good quality Hawkesbury prawns. Bream anglers are doing well working the washboards of the oyster leases and have been working blades along the edges. Reports of bream around 1.5kg mark are common if you can get through the just-legal 25cm fish plus the small ones. Chopper tailor are schooling from the bridge right along Tern Island and up as far as Long Island. Green Point is working well on the run-up tide for those wanting to chase whiting on poppers in the shallows.
Rocks: No reports this week.
Offshore: Outside anglers have been tucked up in bed most days this week barring Friday morning, when a few braved the seas. Reports of good morwong and reds off the Hawke while the commercial guys reported schools of bonito everywhere off Latitude Rock.
Beach: Not many updates on last week other than more tailor have seem to ventured along most gutters this week on all beaches. A few holidaymakers got into the whiting up off Diamond Beach with some fish over 42cm. This trend has continued for a few days.
