Weekly Report 4/5/12

Estuary: The NSWFCA State convention being hosted by the Lakes & Ocean FC this week has produced some mighty catches in the estuary. Great bag limits of quality bream have been plentiful with some fish weighing 1.2kg. Anglers have been targeting the racks on a rising tide using a good berley trail and light tackle to bag these fish. Flathead are still around and reports are that their bellies are full of small whiting. Obviously with a bit of small bait around the flatties will hang on til the food source withers away. A few holidaymakers staying up the Wallamba River at the various caravan parks have caught a few flathead on mullet strips. Local angler Michael Shultz has been targeting Smiths Lake in his kayak and reports that whiting around 35cm have been smashing his Sugapen lures. Michael also has been hitting the bream, flicking his Berkley Pop Dog Growler along the shoreline and slowly twitching it back out from under foliage along the banks.
Rock: No Reports this week.
Offshore: Commercial operators report that trag are on the bite after dark most nights and with the full moon set for this week coming action should really start to fire offshore. Reefs north up as far as Old Bar have produced snapper, morwong and large nannygai. Bar cod are around for those that want to head out to the shelf.
Beach: Sounds like the tailor have arrived with plenty of reports of fish from around 1kg right up to the best of 3.7kg down off Burgess Beach on Thursday night. Janies Corner as always is working well with good bream coming out of the washes on large prawns.
